There was an earthquake this morning.

earthquake meterI was actually just bumming around at our house, watching tv when i felt little tremors. I guess being located in the Pacific Ring of Fire, little earthquakes like these are really common. It was only about a scale of 2 or 3 (I think, I’m not an earthquake-logist) but then, it was strong enough to make our tv swagger(?) a little.

Earthquakes always scares me. And even though i’ve encountered a few number of them (thankfully nothing too strong), I always feel weird whenever they occur. It’s not just that you feel that you’re just being shaken but it always feels like even your insides are vibrating, and then you feel very queasy.

Our dog was actually on the floor sleeping, and surprisingly, he didn’t move an inch. He was just there, splayed on the floor, dreaming away in dreamland. He didn’t even flinch. My knuckles were, on the other hand, white from clutching the top of our sofa, as if that would save me if ever anything happens. I guess if my dog was unconcerned, then I shouldn’t also worry, right?

The quake lasted maybe 10 seconds. I’m not sure really as i was focused on other things besides the time. I looked at the painting in our wall, swinging side to side, then my eyes darted to a vase in the table, which was also shaking. I was actualy poised to dive in to catch it just in case it falls. Then just as how gradually it started, the shaking also gradually stopped. I was still and not moving for 30 seconds. All my 6 senses were in alert mode and I was afraid of moving, just in case the quake came back. But after 30 seconds of being frozen, I started to relax and resumed to watching tv again.

Oh well, i’m being paranoid now. It’s just that besides being drowned alive, my greatest fear would be to die buried alive.

whoa… where do you exactly live? LA? coz the phils havent had its quake since April of this year pa ata in Gen San. I’m only afraid of earthquakes when I’m in a building but when I’m at home, I just go outside the field and drown my senses with the awe of seeing God’s breath shaking the earth. weird ba? it’s only a 3.4 scale of sort when it struck us during my siesta in the afternoon. God Speed.
