Book-ed for the Weekend

books

Two books.

It’s actually been awhile since I bought books. I’ve been just rereading my old books and then last Friday, I came by the Atrium to buy bread and passed by some racks of used books. As always, I couldn’t resist just browsing around.

I ended up with at least 5 books in my hand. But my frugal nature got the better of me. I just bought two: Rough Justice by Lisa Scottoline and The Hunt for Red October by Tom Clancy. This is the first time I’ve read both of the author’s works, so I was really excited to see if they actually good.

I chose Lisa Scottoline because she was described as the “female John Grisham”. And I actually like John Grisham – one of my favorites actually. On the other hand, I was always intrigued by Tom Clancy. I’ve not read a single book of his so I figured now is the best time to start, who knows I might actually like him.

I finished Rough Justice by Sunday morning. I actually liked the book. But as we’re pitting her as the female version of John Grisham, I must say that she’s quite lacking in that department. I just don’t feel the passion and finesse that John Grisham has on his characters. Somehow, I could relate more to John grisham’s characters. I guess the only similarity between Lisa Scottoline and Joh Grisham is that they both write “legal” thrillers.

Anyways, I’m still reading Tom Clancy’s book. So far I like it, although I’m not really into those detailed technical thingys he’s bound to include. I figure they’re essential to the plot, but I just usually skip a passage or paragraph whenever I see those techy stuff. it makes my head spin. I do like his writing style though. And even though I just barely read the book, I’m inclined to buy another Tom Clancy in the near future.

I say that nothing really beats reading a book in the flesh. It’s just so relaxing being curled up inbed with a book in your hands. I’m not really into those ebooks stuff.
